Join the Austin Parks and Recreation Department for a Ribbon Cutting at Duncan Neighborhood Park, 900 W. 9th St., on Saturday, April 13 at 11 a.m. This is an outdoor park event so please dress comfortably. The ceremony is open to the public.
This project was funded by the 2012 Prop 14 Park Bond and the 2018 Prop C Park Bond. The project goals were led by community voices who expressed how the park can best serve the public. Special thanks to the Old Austin Neighborhood Association and the Shoal Creek Conservancy for their partnership in this process.Â
Enhancements to the park allow for passive and active uses. The improved park setting includes an ADA accessible path from 9th street to 10th street and an enhanced connection to the Shoal Creek Hike and Bike Trail. The project added 420 cubic yards of soil to the BMX section of the park. The removal of this soil allowed for the creation of a wetland feature for the park with an overlook area.
Additional improvements include new picnic tables, a drinking fountain, park benches, and new trees. Two meadow planting areas were also added to the grounds to enhance the natural setting and provide bio-diversity. Wildflower areas were established to reintroduce native ecosystems and native landscape plant materials were used to improve water quality.
